Roman Sling Shot Roman Period - A famous wepon in the first centubut generally lead slingshot went out of fashion during the 2nd century AD. Among the soldiers trained for this weapon were archers that used them in conjunction with the bow. They are in excavated condition and some may require a light clean. Sizes vary from 25 to 35 mm.
A sling has a small cradle or pouch in the middle of two lengths of cord. The sling stone is placed in the pouch. Both cords are held in the hand, then the sling is swung and one of the two cords is released. This frees the projectile to fly in a straight line.
